Description

Late 19th-Century Cabinet by Gelles Frères – Paris

A rare and refined example of a late 19th-century metal cabinet, made by Gelles Frères in Paris. Originally designed for disinfecting barber instruments, this type of piece was typically used in barbershops or pharmacies and is now exceptionally hard to find in this condition.

The cabinet features two doors with thick, bevelled glass, and inside are three removable metal trays, delicately perforated and finished with ornate borders. The base is richly decorated, and the original brass maker’s plaque from Gelles Frères is still intact.

Originally intended as a freestanding piece, the cabinet can also be wall-mounted with minimal adaptation — making it highly versatile. In a bathroom, it serves as a striking storage unit for toiletries or makeup. It can equally function as a display cabinet in a shop or dressing room.
