Antique French Corner Basin – Late 19th Century - Blue flower decor
Rare antique corner basin made in France in the late 19th century. Constructed from glazed ceramic and decorated with fine blue motifs using the transfer printing technique (décalcomanie).
This process involves transferring a pattern printed on special paper onto the ceramic surface. Common in the 19th century, it allowed for the efficient and detailed decoration of sanitary ware with symmetrical, single-colour designs—often in blue. After application, the piece was fired again, making the decoration durable and resistant to daily use.
The triangular shape is designed for wall mounting in a corner, typically in a toilet or small bathroom. Well-preserved examples like this are uncommon and highly regarded by collectors of antique sanitary fixtures.
